The Nets traded rising big man Mason Plumlee on draft night to free up space down low and draft New York native Chris McCullough. McCullough tore his ACL during his freshmen season at Syracuse which caused much speculation if he would even be drafted at all or if he could even play this season.
Yesterday during a media session, Nets GM Billy King wouldn’t set a specific timetable for when McCullough could play, but seemed optimistic he’d be back sooner than later.
“He’s on the court, he’s doing some stuff, rehabbing,” King said. He’s on the court shooting with (Director of Physical Therapy) Lloyd (Beckett) and his team, doing physical therapy. We’ll give a timetable on exactly where we think he’ll be after the first preseason game.”
Compare that to what the man himself said:
“It’s a long process,” McCullough told New York Post writer Tim Bontemps. “I’m still nowhere near ready. You’ve just got to mentally lock in and be ready to do what you’ve got to do. That’s where I’m at right now, but I’m not going to rush it. I’m taking my time with it and being patient. I’m definitely taking it day-by-day. If I have to sit out, it’s going to benefit me in the long run, so I’m not even mad about that.”
Fans can take that how they want but long story short, Nets fans won’t be seeing Chris McCullough for a while, which really hurts them in there now slim front court.
