Former All-Star and free agent center, Chris Kaman has agreed to a contract with the Portland Trail Blazers. The contract is a two-year, $9.8 million contract with the Portland Trail Blazers, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. The second season of the deal has $1 million of the $5 million guaranteed, a source said.
Kaman has a history with Blazers general manager Neil Olshey, who coached him as a member of the Los Angeles Clippers staff. The Blazers had discussed deals with free agents Channing Frye and Spencer Hawes, but made the move to reach an agreement with Kaman on Thursday sources said.
Robin Lopez, who shined in the playoff series versus the Rockets and elevated his game to a new level now has a back up seven footer who could start on many teams in the league. Kaman give the Blazers another legit 7-foot option down low to join Lopez and LaMarcus Aldridge.
The 32 year old played for the Los Angeles Lakers last season and seemed to butt heads with former Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni and saw his minutes deplete. Kaman averaged 10.4 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game in just about an average of 19 minutes a game. In 11 seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers, New Orleans Pelicans, Dallas Mavericks and Lakers, Kaman has averaged 11.7 PPG and 7.9 RPG through his entire career including an All-Star game appearance in 2010 as a member of the Clippers.
