Chris Bosh Out Indefinitely With Strained Calf
The Miami Heat have hit the injury bug pretty hard.
Head coach Erik Spoelstra announced on Monday that All-Star forward Chris Bosh, who is tenth in the league in scoring at over 21 points per game, is out indefinitely with a strained calf. He also announced the loss of Josh McRoberts, who the Heat signed this past July, due to a right knee injury he suffered last week against Phoenix. McRoberts could be considered out for the season.
From ESPN’s Michael Wallace:
“Injuries are a part of this game — how you respond to adversities, to things that are tough, that’s what reveals your collective character as a group,” Spoelstra said. “I told the guys there will be brighter days. It always usually evens out at the end. We’re being hit pretty strong with the injury bug right now.”
“You have to fight yourself from (feeling sorry),” Spoelstra said after McRoberts’ tear was confirmed following an MRI on Monday. “It was a kick to the gut when we heard about Josh. You feel for him more than anything, because he wanted to come in here and contribute. And you started to see flashes of it.”
McRoberts has played in 17 of the Heat’s 24 games sparingly with injuries.
From Bosh, who felt his injury worsen in Miami’s win against Utah on Saturday:
“It’s a wear-and-tear thing that kind of sprung up on me,” said Bosh, who is averaging 21.6 points and 8.2 rebounds. “It just seems to be a dark cloud over everything right now. Everything seems to be tough. You have to find a way to deal with the tough times right now, find out a way to keep everybody mentally stimulated around here. I’m going to make sure I do what’s necessary to get back.”
Bosh sat out in Miami’s loss to Brooklyn on Sunday.
This Heat time had a great enough obstacle this season compensating for the loss of LeBron James, now they’re challenged with competing without two of their Big 3 of the previous three seasons. Miami is off to an 11-13 start, which is the worst start for Erik Spoelstra in his seven seasons as head coach. The challenge for him as a coach is now even greater, and without Bosh for the foreseeable future, it becomes that much tougher to remain effective, competitive, and now to earn this team a seat in the postseason.
