Chris Bosh has been sidelined for the Miami Heat since the All-Star break in February due a blood clot that has cut his season short for the second straight year. Bosh’s condition had some positive updates as of late, creating some hope that he’d be able to make a return this season.
Despite still being listed on the 15-man roster, the Heat will be going on without Bosh in the playoffs. Bosh addressed the team directly, per Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press:
Wade just revealed Bosh spoke to the Heat today about the playoffs. “He doesn’t have the ability to be in it,” Wade said.

Heat point guard Goran Dragic’s reaction, via Shandel Richardson of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel:
“It’s really tough for him because he wants to be part of this on the court and it’s really hard to watch. It’s a tough situation for him but we need him. Even if he’s not going to play, his ability to talk to the players, to show what you’re doing wrong or how you’re supposed to do it, it’s big time.”
Bosh will be on the Heat bench during the postseason, now just providing his mentorship and moral support for Miami, whose chances to make serious noise in the playoffs aren’t considered as realistic without Bosh’s presence on the floor.
