Chip Kelly, new 49ers head coach, recently went on talk radio to discuss his San Francisco team. In regards to the highly anticipated quarterback battle between Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert it appears to truly be an open competition.
Kelly said on 95.7 The Game that he doesn’t see a lot of difference between the two players, and they’re both equally good fits for his offense.
I think many people probably thought he would at least be in slight favor of Kaepernick but that doesn’t appear to be the case. I think what people probably need to realize is the Kaepernick we saw during the Jim Harbaugh days probably isn’t the best inclination for his talent. (Jim Harbaugh just won 10 games with a horrible Michigan team with an undrafted quarterback in Jake Ruddock. Coaching matters folks!)
While Kelly is also known as a great offensive mind I actually think Gabbert will get the starting nod if I had to guess. Could the 9ers deal Kaep to the Jets? Does he even want to be in San Francisco to begin with? Kelly has an hora about him and will not deal with his antics.
