The Chicago Bears were not a very good football team in 2015 finishing in last place in the NFC North. The Bears appear to be in the same range again this season as long as Jay Cutler is the signal caller. Having said that what should you be looking for during the Bears training camp?

3 Position Battles To Watch:

  1. Running Back: Ka’Deem Carey vs. Jacquizz Rodgers vs. Jeremy Langford vs. Jordan Howard

Matt Forte is gone and there are some carries to be had. Jeremy Langford had a strong showing in his rookie campaign and there is reason to believe Jordan Howard can do the same this season. Carey and Rodgers appear to be perfect complimentary backs but its possible one may not make the team.

2. Left Tackle: Charles Leno vs. Nick Becton vs. Jason Weaver

The Bears tried to upgrade the offensive line with draft pick Cody Whitehair and offseason signee Bobby Massie. However there is still a pretty big hole at left tackle. Charles Leno did an ok job for the team last season but he probably isn’t the long term solution.

3. Tight End: Tony Moeki vs. Zach Miller vs. Rob Housler

Martellus Bennett was shipped to the Pats this offseason leaving a big hole at tight end. This seems to be more of a trial by fire here as Jay Cutler can’t be to happy about losing his big target in Bennett. Rookie Ben Braunecker from Harvard could be a long term option if he develops nicely.

Ready To Breakout: Kyle Long

Long is turning into one of the best guards in football. His 6’6″ frame and long arms have played well in both run and pass blocking. Former collegiate teammate Hroniss Grasu also appears to be the team’s future center as the team has build some nice pieces along the offensive line.

Fantasy Sleeper: Kevin White

White is a former first round pick from the Bears in 2015. After missing the entirety of his rookie season, White appears to be ready to make a big contribution. He should get plenty of opportunities as well with Alshon Jeffry garnering most of the attention.

Rookie To Watch: Jonathan Bullard

Bullard was a nice pick in the third round. While the Bears went risk/reward in the first and second rounds in Leonard Floyd and Cody Whitehair, Bullard figures to be a important starter in a draft that was filled with defensive line depth.

Chicago doesn’t appear to be a major player in the 2016 season. Chicago’s defense could keep them competitive in a lot of games but they will struggle to score points. Former play caller Adam Gase left to be the head coach of Miami.
