The Charlotte Hornets are finally a franchise that is solidly in the NBA zeitgeist. The Bobcats are a distant memory, the tragic jerseys, the crappy records, it is all gone. It’s all about the Hornets now and the NBA are ready to take that franchise to the next level. They have upgraded their arena and it’s finally going to happen.
The Charlotte Hornets are finally in, they have won the bid to host the 2017 NBA All-Star Weekend.
In comments during a visit to Charlotte last fall, Silver said he thought it was a sure thing Charlotte would be awarded an All-Star Weekend after city officials agreed to various upgrades and renovations at Time Warner Cable Arena.
“Personally I’m very excited about coming back here. I don’t think there’s any question it’s going to happen,” Silver said in December. “Just a matter of what year.”
Now the city of Charlotte have two years to get some funding and make their city a destination for basketball’s greatest three days. Now that they have the arena to host an event of this magnitude and they also have Adam Silver’s approval, they have to handle things like travel, accommodating people, the works. Now marketing won’t be a problem. The NBA plus Michael Jordan at the helm? Whoowee! They’re going to make some hell of an All-Star Weekend.
