You may be reading the headline and pull that Nick Young face of confusion you see everywhere nowadays. But yes, tis true. Charles Barkley has said something positive about the New York Knicks. Christmas miracle in August? It’s close.
We all know the moves that the Knicks made, and we all laughed because they didn’t get any stars. But they filled some holes and that’s all you can ask for at this moment in time. And Barkley recognises that.
“I actually disagree with all the criticism that people are giving the Knicks. I think the Knicks should be on national television this year. They actually got NBA players,’’ Barkley, a TNT analyst, said Wednesday night on NBA TV’s show to reveal the NBA schedule.
Take a look at the Knicks schedule here if you want to steam over nothing. I personally think that every team should get at least one game in the national spotlight. That’s not a big ask, but hey the Sixers are the Sixers and as long as Sam Hinkie is in charge I don’t want them nowhere near ESPN, ABC or TNT. I love Nerlens, but I can easily just YouTube him.
Back to Barkley, he continued to elucidate on the praise. As if he’s president of TNT and he decides who they talk about on the show.
Barkley added: “Robin Lopez is an NBA player, Arron Afflalo is an NBA player, [draftee] Jerian Grant is an NBA player. That’s three NBA players that they did not have last year. And they’re going to get Carmelo [Anthony] back. [First-round draft pick Kristaps] Porzingis is going to be a good player, maybe not right now, but he’s going to be a good player.“
I’m having a hard time with this paragraph. Simply because it’s giving praise for doing their job. Cue that Chris Rock joke.
This is like a chef saying “I collected some ingredients for the service tonight”. You want a cookie? I get what Barkley is saying, I’m just saying that it sounds like you’re giving Phil and the Knicks praise for doing their jobs. You’re supposed to get players, and yes, you’ve done an alright job. Could’ve been better obviously, but you did what you could.
