Linebacker Melvin Ingram and the Los Angeles Chargers have agreed to a new deal that will keep Ingram around a little longer. Ingram was franchise tagged by the team back in February. Adam Schefter of ESPN first broke the news on twitter.

Ingram played four years at the University of South Carolina. He was then drafted 18th overall in the 2012 draft by the Chargers. Last season, Ingram racked up 60 tackles as well as 8 sacks, bringing his career totals to 203 tackles and 24.5 sacks.
Ingram’s career to this point has been a solid one. He is the kind of player a team like the Chargers need to keep around if they have any hope of improving their team as a whole. The Chargers have struggled to keep up with their AFC West counterparts. The Chiefs and Raiders both had outstanding seasons, each ending with a 12-4 record and trips to the playoffs, while the Chargers fell to the bottom with an overall record of 5-11. The Chargers have ways to go in catching up to these teams, but keeping a player like Ingram could help in the long run.
