Channing Frye reportedly is going to be a very busy stretch forward this off-season. The 31 year old Power Forward/Center is getting interest from the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors and his team from last year, the Phoenix Suns.
All of the teams are great fits for Frye. He can go to all of the teams and come in and immediately contribute. He would most likely play backup minutes for all the teams but all the offenses and schemes work well for Frye. Since developing his three point shot a few years back, Frye has been a threat from deep since he left the Trailblazers in 2009, shooting over 35% from the three point line for the last four season in Phoenix.
The Suns want to keep him, they’ve had Frye for a few years now and like how he changes up the game plans and strategy for teams defensively, but how much longer can Frye stay on a team and not contend for a championship, which it seems Phoenix is still far away from, missing a few big pieces.
The Warriors have Steve Kerr who is very close with Frye and Frye could come in and play the four or five for the Dubs and stretch the floor out, even more than David Lee does now. Draymond Green has started to play bigger during his time with the Warriors and could take some of those minutes away from Frye, but there are still a few things to figure out this off season in Golden State.
The Cavaliers have a spot for Frye under new head coach Dave Blatt’s system that stretches out the floor and works well for shooters, but for the same reason he has to leave Phoenix, are the Cavs really that close to contend soon? Frye is 31 after all and might want to start winning, and start winning now.
Wherever Frye ends up, he will be a big time contributor coming off the bench, especially from three and changing up teams whole defensive schemes.
