As if the situation for the Dallas Mavericks couldn’t get any worse. They’re already attempting to fight off the high octane offense of the Houston Rockets, in their Western Conference first round playoff matchup and they’re also fighting issues in the locker room. Now it appears there may be some major injury concerns with one of their top players.
Chandler Parsons knee injury appears to be a lot more serious than first thought.
Following from Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski.
Dallas is spiraling, losing Chandler Parsons to a knee injury that will make his return in this first-round series impossible, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Following from Brian Gutierrez of Mavs Outsider.
He will be re-evaluated (Wednesday) by Dr. (T.O.) Souryal and we’ll have more information for you following that evaluation.”
Speaking to someone familiar with the situation, they suggested that Parsons was going to need at least two additional weeks of rest to get his knee back to 100 percent. That would likely mean that Parsons would miss the remainder of the opening round series against the Rockets.
The Rockets are all over the Mavs early on in their series, leading 2-0 after last night’s dunk show in Houston. The problem for the Mavs is that if they don’t have Chandler Parsons on their team to try and do great things, there’s no way the Mavs can even dream about outscoring the Rockets.
It’s been a small debocle all season for the Mavs since they decided to bring in Chandler Parsons to the team. He signed a max contract with the Mavs in the offseason after leaving the Houston Rockets to decide to go after other endevaors as possibly the main option in Dallas after Dirk Nowitzki departs. It’s been anything but that and it’s been a struggle of a season for Parsons partly due to injuries.
He’s played only 66 games this season, averaged 15.5 points per game on 46% shooting. For a guy in his fourth season, that should be an improvement but in the case of Parsons, he took a step back and also saw his minutes take a drop.
UPDATE: Chandler Parsons has officially been ruled out for the remainder of the season. Following from an official Mavericks press release.
The Dallas Mavericks announced that after being re-evaluated today forward Chandler Parsons is out for the remainder of the season. He is currently exploring surgical options to address his right knee injury.
