In a bit of surprising news, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon is reporting that Dallas Mavericks’ forward Chandler Parsons recently had a procedure done on his right knee.

The procedure is being called a “minor hybrid” microfracture operation, somewhat different from the traditional microfracture surgery that has a longer recovery time. According to MacMahon, the operation involved a bone marrow transplant to help address cartilage issues in his right knee – an injury that kept him out of almost all of the playoffs last season.
As a result of this operation, Parsons has not yet been fully cleared for the Mavs’ training camp, which begins on Tuesday. However, he has remained optimistic that he will be ready to play in the season opener. The Mavericks are also dealing with injuries to recent additions Wesley Matthews and JaVale McGee, both of whom will likely miss most of camp. Matthews may not be ready for the season opener, either, as he is recovering from tearing hiss Achilles tendon in March.
Clearly, the Mavericks are hurting on the injury front. In a season where most believe they will fall out of the playoff race, not having key contributors available early in the season may hurt the team quite a bit.
