Since joining the Dallas Mavericks, Chandler Parsons has underperformed and not reached the expectations Dallas fans have expected. Parsons averaged 13.9 points, 4 rebounds, and about 2 3-pointers a game, which is still very good, but he’s going to need to do a little bit more to command a max deal. Parsons is a free agent this offseason and with numerous teams interested in him, Parsons is looking to get about a $22 million contract.
According to Tim McMahon of ESPN, Parsons and his camp are confident he will receive his max deal:
Parsons eagerly anticipates exploring his options in free agency as the Mavericks plan to prioritize other targets, sources told ESPN, although a return to Dallas remains a possibility.
“He’ll be all ears,” one source said.
With the salary cap spiking to a projected $94 million, giving the majority of NBA teams the salary-cap space to sign a free agent to a maximum deal, sources say Parsons’ camp remains confident that he will command a max contract with a starting annual salary of $22 million.
Parsons has received interest from numerous teams, but not at a max salary. The Knicks, Magic and other suitors will look to set up meetings with Parsons, and it’s growing less and less likely he will return to the Mavericks. With the Mavericks priorities of signing Mike Conley and Hassan Whiteside, and also re-signing Dirk Nowitzki, Parsons will probably be put on the back burner for the time being with Dallas.
