Eveyone has things they would love to do. Make a lot of money, have a nice house, have a great family and even have a great job. For Boston Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck, he has different aspirations going into this years playoffs.
He has visions of facing and beating LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the playoffs.
Grousbeck said the following in an interview with ‘Celtics Beat’ on CLNS Radio when the topic comes up at around the 23:30 mark.
“I would love to play [LeBron] in the playoffs somehow and I would love to beat him.”
Well, as it so happens to land, the Celtics are on a fast track to going up against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the playoffs. They currently sit seventh in the Eastern Conference standings and they would matchup with the Cavs.
Cleveland has fought all season long to prove they are a true title contender. You know about LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and how dominant those players can be. This team has been hot since they were 19-20 and made those big deals to bring Timofey Mozgov in January and then J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert just a few days later. Maybe the Cavs are doing a little jockeying to set up a series with Boston in the playoffs. Just consider that Kyrie Irving did not play in their recent matchup on Friday and LeBron possibly is not playing in their Sunday matchup either. They’re ‘resting’.
The matchup doesn’t seem very favorable on the surface but the Celtics do have a fighter’s chance. They have a great offense that moves the ball all over the floor and it doesn’t center around one guy. Whoever is hot, they get a chance, they get to score and do their thing. Evan Turner, Marcus Smart, Jared Sullinger and Isaiah Thomas, as of late, are considered the ‘go-to’ guys for the C’s which is a great thing to have because they all bring different things to the table.
Don’t get it twisted though, there are a few guys that are capable of scoring and causing havoc to defenses. They have a versatile offense and guys who can play multiple positions, and roles. I don’t see it being a surprise if the Celtics can steal a game or 2 from the Cavs.
But basically wanting the Cavs in the first round? Good luck.
