Isaiah Thomas returned for the Boston Celtics Wednesday night vs. the Miami Heat after missing 8 games with a bruised tailbone and right elbow. Thomas didn’t look at all like his usual self, scoring just 4 points on 2-7 shooting in 20 minutes.
Thomas has played a huge role on the Celtics ever since they acquired him from the Suns, averaging 21.4 points per game prior to last night.
It was clear that Thomas was still feeling the repercussions of his injury during last night’s game. Late in the second quarter, he took a charge and landed hard on his injured tailbone.
Thomas spoke about that fall after the game, and it seems that his tailbone will be fine. Per Chris Forberg of ESPN,
Thomas said “It hurt – the initial hit when I took the charge – but other than that, I was all right.”
Thomas was more worried about his play than the tailbone, telling Forberg:
“I was playing so bad, I didn’t even care about the fall, honestly.”
The Celtics are going to need Thomas; their top scorer, to pick up his game if they want to make the playoffs. After last night’s loss to Miami, the Celtics sit tied with the Indiana Pacers for the eighth seed in the east, now two games behind the seventh-seeded Heat.
