In 1995, Andre 3000 uttered the infamous words, “The south has something to say.” While the legendary artist may have been talking about rap and how it pertained to The Source Awards, it also applied to R&B. In recent years, some of the brightest R&B stars have emerged from the south. From Lucky Daye to Luke James, the south has been speaking loudly and clearly in the world of R&B. Adding his name to the mix, Florida’s Cedric Brazle has delivered a new project called If I Knew Then.
Cedric Brazle’s If I Knew Then is a six-track project that is both nostalgic and fresh. Influenced by the stylings of Donny Hathaway and Sam Cooke, the Florida native bares his soul on every record that he touches. Beginning with “Granted,” he opens up about heartbreak that he has felt and continues to deal with.
“We took our love for granted/Damn, we really had it/But, somehow we couldn’t grasp it/That’s how I came to terms with it all,” he sings over the Mixtape Seoul production.
He immediately follows up “Granted” with “Mixed Feelings.” Brazle strikes back as he puts his foot down and lets his significant other know that his emotions aren’t to be played with.
“Gave all my love/Now my heart ain’t in it/Give me a second babe I need time/Fall for this again and I’ma lose my mind,” he sings.
If I Knew Then is a wild rollercoaster of emotions that is honest and relatable. If you’re looking for a new R&B project to listen to, If I Knew Then is the right choice. Check out the project below.
