In a not-so-shocking development, CBS has decided to pull Rihanna’s song from the pregame show tonight (Sept. 11). The original segment was to have Don Cheadle providing voiceover to the Bajan star’s “Run This Town.” Afterwards, the CBS Sports and NFL Network personalities would discuss the game, you know, the norm.
However, tonight’s pregame will feature the latest details of the Ray Rice debacle, with anchor Norah O’Donnell — who interviewed NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Wednesday — administering updates.
“It’s important to realize we are not overreacting to this story but it is as big a story as has faced the NFL,” McManus told SI.com from Baltimore Thursday afternoon. “We thought journalistically and from a tone standpoint, we needed to have the appropriate tone and coverage. A lot of the production elements we wanted in the show are being eliminated because of time or tone.”
