Well that’s all she wrote folks, the Cleveland Cavaliers have swept the Detroit Pistons after barely making it out of game 4 100-98. Kyrie Irving who hit plenty of big shots this series once again hit the clutch 3 pointer with 42 seconds remaining to put the Cavs up 100-96, he also guarded Reggie Jackson on the final play of the game that could have sent the game to overtime.
Just like in every other game this series the game started off with the Pistons taking it to the Cavs forcing them to call an early timeout and regroup. JR Smith who has been about consistent as it gets this series hit some three’s (51 of his 54 points this series has come off three pointers) to bring the Cavs back. Tobias Harris was the a major key early on breaking out of his series slump and pouring in 10 first quarter points (ended with 23).
The second period had plenty of back forth too with no team leading by more than 3 points for the whole quarter.
Cleveland slowly started to assert their dominance and their playoff experience began to show in the third. Kyrie Irving was ridiculous this quarter scoring 10 points in the first four minutes of the period and did some amazing stuff like this…
And this…
Luckily for all the fans at the Pistons games they did not give, in the fourth period the Pistons battled hard! They were without their all-star Andre Drummond once again after the 6:00 minute mark thanks to his free throw woes, but Detroit continued show the resilience they’ve shown all series as they went up against “Goliath”
At the end of the day Goliath was too much for Reggie Jackson and the Pistons.
Kyrie led all scorers with 31 points, Marcus Morris led the Pistons with 24. Detroit has a lot to be proud of, they were in the 3 out of the 4 games up until the end and were just literally a couple possessions from winning those games. If Andre Drummond can increase his free throw percentage and Reggie Jackson continues to flourish under Stan Van Gundy this team will be one to fear very soon.
Meanwhile the Cavs get a few extra days of rest while the rest of the eastern conference playoffs continue.
