There is one player who has been requesting a big money contract all summer who has yet to be signed. Tristan Thompson hasn’t agreed to terms with the Cleveland Cavaliers yet despite the fact that he said he would agree to a 3-year deal worth $53 million over the weekend. Thompson wants the max, whether it’s a five-year max, as previously reported, or now the three-year max, Thompson wants the big bucks.
The Cavaliers have yet to budge on what they wanted to do and they haven’t given him what he wants. With no contract in place, Thompson has nowhere to go, which means he is not appearing at Cavs media day.

Neither Cavs or Thompson are framing situation as "hold out" because he has until Thursday, which is Oct. 1, to sign $6.9M qualifying offer

Today is the Cavaliers media day, tomorrow is their first practice and by Thursday, the deadline for Thompson’s deal comes. The Cavaliers are on the clock and they know that, so now they’ve decided to increase their offer to Thompson. Not quite a max deal.

The Cavaliers view both of the offers the same: They aren’t interested. However, they are willing to up their five-year, $80-million offer, sources informed Northeast Ohio Media Group, but to what extent is unknown at this time.
It’s not the max that Tristan wants but it’s something. It’s a move towards something that could potentially mean the two sides meet in the middle and hopefully for the Cavs, he’ll agree to something before he’s forced to take the qualifying offer because if he has to take that offer, Thompson might not be around much longer.
