The Cleveland Cavaliers are planning to sign point guard Cameron Payne to a 10-day contract according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. The team is also waiving recently signed wing Pat McCaw, allowing him to be an unrestricted free agent. The Cavs have since confirmed this report with an official press release.

Payne was released by the Chicago Bulls on January 3rd after they received a package of players for Justin Holiday. The former first-round pick Payne was the odd-man out, and apparently for good reason.
McCaw becomes an unrestricted free agent, something he was not able to achieve just over a week ago as a member of the Golden State Warriors. Cleveland signed McCaw to a fully non-guaranteed deal in the event they wanted to keep him – or cut him loose at no charge. His contract would have become guaranteed too, should he had remained on the team past January 7th. Charania notes that Cleveland may attempt to retain McCaw after the guarantee deadline, though several contenders would likely have interest.
