NBA free agency has been a wild ride since July 1st as many teams have made moves for the betterment of their future. One team didn’t have the luxury of being able to court big name talents were the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs were stuck going into free agency with a fixated amount of money to spend but they had all intentions of bringing in some new talent one way or another.
They locked up Kevin Love on a 5-year max deal, Timofey Mozgov will be back for one more season and they brought in former Cavs teammate of LeBron James, Mo Williams.
It hasn’t been all great for Cleveland as they have hit a snag with Tristan Thompson and his contract talks which means the Cavs have hit a snag with their contract talks with LeBron James. ‘The King’ won’t talk about his contract until Tristan is locked up.
One Cavs player that might have been forgotten about is the often animated, rarely duplicated, J.R. Smith. He elected to become a free agent quickly after the Cavs lost the NBA Finals to the Golden State Warriors and we haven’t heard about him since.
Don’t worry, the Cavs have not forgotten about their trigger-happy reserve guard and still have interest in getting a new contract for him.

Early indications are Cavs likewise have NOT abandoned JR Smith pursuit. They seem intent on keeping whole band together. And adding to it

At this point, the Cavs need to do all they can to bring back J.R. Smith. You might as well lock in Smith and bring the whole crew back with the addition of Mo Williams and whatever they can get for Brandan Haywood.
Smith had some success with the Cavs during his short time with the team but his production took a dramatic dip during the NBA Finals. Teams may be reluctant to offer Smith any serious money so the Cavs should just go deeper into their luxury tax and bring the band back together.
