The Cleveland Cavaliers have done a good job thus far this summer. They came close to winning it all last season, and they’re keeping the gang together to make another run at it this year. They re-signed LeBron James, Kevin Love, Matthew Dellavedova, and Iman Shumpert, and are still looking to re-sign J.R. Smith and Tristan Thompson.
The Cavs continued their re-signing frenzy on Thursday when they reached a deal with veteran small forward James Jones.
From Chris Haynes of the Northeast Ohio Media Group:
Small forward James Jones has reached an agreement on a one-year deal to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, league sources informed Northeast Ohio Media Group.
The contract, according to one source, is for the veteran’s minimum. The paperwork was faxed Thursday to Jones, who is in Florida with family. The contract is expected to be signed and finalized as early as Friday.
Jones is a veteran who is trusted by the team and most importantly, by LeBron. Jones is close with LeBron; the two played together in Miami, and LeBron was the main reason that Cleveland signed him last summer. So, it makes sense that the Cavs would re-sign him this year.
Jones brings more to the table than friendship with LeBron James. He’s a very reliable shooter in catch-and-shoot situations. Jones has shot 39.8% on 3-pointers for his career.
