The Cleveland Cavaliers have been quiet in the weeks upcoming to the trade deadline considering what they need to do if they want a championship. That is interesting.
We all know that if they do make the Finals, the work will be quick for the Golden State Warriors or San Antonio Spurs. (providing that they make the Finals, but who are we kidding?) So the Cavs need something, they need to upgrade because what they have now is not enough, which brings me back to being surprised about their lack of activity. Past the rumours about Boston/Kevin Love and more recently Kosta Koufos, there hasn’t been much concrete word.
Timofey Mozgov, who’s been pretty much a bust in terms of what the Cavs wanted from him, is going to be a free agent after this season. The Cavs aren’t bothered much about this.
With new coach Tyronn Lue pushing for a faster pace, does Mozgov fit? Are the Cavs better off with Tristan Thompson and Kevin Love playing center? Love has moved to center when Lue wants a smaller lineup, LeBron James becoming the power forward.
These are the reasons you will hear Mozgov’s name mentioned in trade rumors before the Feb. 18 deadline. The odds are against the Cavs re-signing him, given their incredible salary cap problems and his declining performance. Mozgov makes $5 million and I would not be shocked if he is traded.
The Cavs are bound to do something, whether that includes Timofey Mozgov remains to be seen. He should hope to move, I mean the only reason the Cavs went for him is because David Blatt pushed for it, telling GM Griffin that he should take a punt on Mozzy. Now that David Blatt is gone, maybe it’s time for Mozgov to bolt?
