Cate Blanchett has entered talks to star in The Dig.
Blanchett is in line to take on the role of archaeologist Edith Pretty, the driving force behind the famous 1938-1939 excavation of Sutton Hoo. The excavation dig uncovered a wealth of sixth and seventh-century artifacts between two ancient Suffolk cemeteries.
Susanne Bier will direct the new period drama based on the novel by John Preston, reports Screen Daily.
The Dig will be produced by Clerkenwell Films, and will begin shooting in late 2014.
