Cary Elwes has been cast in Blumhouse Production’s remake of the holiday-slasher cult classic, Black Christmas, according to Deadline. Details of the role are still unknown but Elwes is set to play a major part in the film. A remake of the film was previously attempted in 2006 to mostly negative reviews.
Elwes will be joining a cast of relative newcomers except for Imogen Poots, who is also playing a major role. The rest of the cast includes Aleyse Shannon, Brittany O’Grady, Lily Donoghue, and Caleb Eberhardt. Sophia Takal and April Wolfe wrote the script with Takal also set to direct the film. Production will begin soon in New Zealand with a December 13th release date in mind.
Elwes is best known for The Princess Bride and has had a bump in popularity recently with roles in the upcoming seasons of both Stranger Things and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. He’s also made quite the name for himself in horror circles over the last decade. He’s had roles in spooky features such as Saw, Saw 3D: The Final Chapter, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and The Bride.
Black Christmas hits theaters on December 13th.
