The Indianapolis Colts have announced that starting quarterback Carson Wentz will miss 5-12 weeks after undergoing foot surgery. This injury will affect the Colt’s season and the Philadelphia Eagle’s draft position after the trade that sent Wentz to Indianapolis. The Eagles’ second-round pick from the Colts will convert to a first-round pick if Wentz plays 75 percent of regular-season snaps or if he plays 70 percent of snaps and the Colts make the playoffs. The latter end of that recovery timetable would put that pick upgrade into jeopardy.
What we know about Carson Wentz:
— Injury arose after a bone in his plant foot, the left metatarsal, became dislodged after it was previously broken (possibly back in HS)
— Team decided it wanted “the most predictable outcome.”

It appears the Colts will be going with backup quarterback Jacob Eason until Wentz returns, but they have been linked with some other names. Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew has made it clear he does not want to be a backup and the Chicago Bears currently have Nick Foles sitting third on the depth chart making a lot of money. The current assumption is the Colts want to stick with their young quarterback Jacob Eason.
Colts offensive coordinator Marcus Brady had the following to say about Eason. “He’s getting better every day. The biggest thing is we just want to continue getting him reps. There are plays that he hadn’t seen and this is his first time getting the live rep. He’s going to learn from it, he’s going to make the mistakes. He made some good plays, he made some bad plays and we just have to continue to grow and make sure that he’s improving and learning from those mistakes.”
