Carol Burnett’s book, Carrie and Me: A Mother-Daughter Love Story, is being developed into a film at Focus Features, according to Deadline. Burnett is attached to produce alongside Tina Fey (Def Pen’s Woman of the Week), Eric Gurian, and Steven Rogers. Rogers is best known for working on 2017’s Tonya Harding biopic I, Tonya.
Burnett’s autobiography tells the story of her life through the lens of her relationship with her daughter. It explores the highs and the lows of Burnett’s storied career while trying to balance it with motherhood. Her oldest daughter, Carrie Hamilton, struggled with addiction as a teenager but found sobriety as a young woman. She tragically passed away in 2002 from cancer at the age of 38.
Burnett is producing through Mabel Cat Productions, her personal production banner. Fey and Gurian will also be producing under their own banner, Little Strangers, alongside executive producer Jeff Richmond. Ian and Eshom Nelms are writing the film’s screenplay. No director or cast announcements have been made so far.
Carrie and Me also has yet to receive a release date.
