The New York Knicks have had a no good, very bad, terrible season. And when a team in New York is no longer on the brink of disaster but in a complete free fall of calamity, it is shouted from every mountaintop available. Every mistake picked apart, every laughable decision met with a chorus of cackles, and every loss more embarrassing than the last. Carmelo Anthony specifically has been at the forefront of backlash and has supplied the numerous quotable complaints.
This season may have been the final straw for Melo in the big apple.
According to ESPN’s Ian Begley, Carmelo Anthony might be on his way out of New York after six seasons as a Knick.
Those with knowledge of the dynamic between Anthony and the Knicks believe that, while no final decision has been made, Anthony is leaning strongly toward waiving the no-trade clause at this point. Anthony said on Wednesday night that he’d “love” to be back, but wants assurances that the Knicks are committed to winning.
It appears Melo’s conflicts with Phil Jackson are the source of his frustrations. Specifically, Jackson endorsing an article that was critical of Melo’s play. Leaving New York seems to not only be the right choice for Carmelo but for the Knicks and the sanity of the average NBA fan.
