The New York Knicks are the gift that keeps on giving. And it only takes one loss to the Dallas Mavericks to ignite another flame.
This time, it’s Carmelo Anthony once again talking about being traded. From ESPN’s Tim MacMahon:
Carmelo Anthony on possibly waiving his no-trade clause: “I mean, if they want to go in a different direction, that’s something that I have to consider. I would have to consider that. Like I said, all the talk that’s going on right now, that’s out of my control. Nobody called me. Nobody got in contact with any of my representation or anything like that, so it’s something that I don’t worry about. I’m not thinking about that right now.”
Well this sure is interesting. Just recently, there were reports after a meeting with Phil Jackson that Anthony would not waive his no-trade clause, citing his desire to win in New York.
Perhaps those were false reports or strategic leaks. Or something changed in that time. Did Melo suddenly realize he probably won’t win a championship in New York? Did he become really interested in Team Banana Boat after reports that the Knicks tried to trade him to Cleveland? After all, Dwyane Wade isn’t doing so hot in Chicago right now either.
Either way, this is really interesting. The Knicks should absolutely pursue trades for Melo so they can officially build around Kristaps Porzingis with a younger roster. He won’t accept any and all trades, but there’s at least a glimmer of hope that the Knicks can get something back for Carmelo Anthony and begin their rebuild.
