When the topic of shutting down your top player comes up on the New York Knicks, it’s more of a question of when it will happen as opposed to if it will happen. Carmelo Anthony is a member of the ever struggling Knicks and his knee injury issues have been well documented.
Melo has gone on to say previously that he is going to try and play in the Knicks game in London against the Milwaukee Bucks but now, it seems like Anthony might not play in that game and is seriously considering shutting it down and having knee surgery be the only option.
Carmelo Anthony said he's "pretty sure at some point" surgery will be the only option to repair his injured knee. #Knicks

Carmelo not sure if he'll play in London. Admits that knee surgery may be the best/only option at this point.

More from Ian Begley of ESPN.com:
“I’m pretty sure at some point that’s going to be my only option,” Anthony said after the team’s afternoon practice. “But until that time I can’t sit out. … I feel like if I can go out there and play some more and continue to play, then I’m going to do that. I’m pretty sure there will come a time where I have to make that decision to sit out and take the proper procedure and get what I need to be done.”
If Melo even knows it’s time, it might be time. He just might be holding it off for now, but, it’s time Carmelo. This move would undoubtedly shut him down for the season.
The Knicks have nothing to fight for anymore. Knicks are 5-35 and horrible, ridiculously bad and shouldn’t be making their 100 million dollar man play more than he has to especially at this point. They are worse than the Philadelphia 76ers, a team even some veterans won’t even go to. The only thing Melo should not shut it down for is the All-Star game, which he will play and get voted into, but beyond that, there’s no need to see Melo in a Knicks jersey anymore this season, especially if they are looking to trade away some more players from the roster and completely clean house.
The youth movement is on in New York, at least until this horrible season is over.
