Carmelo Anthony has been a New York Knick since they acquired him from the Denver Nuggets via trade back in 2011. Since then he has remained loyal to the Knicks, and has been sure to remind everybody of that fact –even if he’s unsure that his loyalty was a good thing.
Anthony plans to remain with the Knicks through next season. From Marc Berman of the New York Post:
Carmelo Anthony gave an assurance he won’t waive his no-trade clause this summer.
Anthony spoke for 15 minutes Thursday, at a TechCrunch conference at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, about Melo7 Tech Partners, the company he started a year ago that invests in tech start-ups, then took questions from a couple of business-news outlets.
When asked by Yahoo Finance if he will be on the Knicks next season, Anthony said, “Oh, yeah, you’ll see me here for the Knicks. Absolutely.”
Anthony, who has a no-trade clause that he’s hinted on and off about waiving in the near future if things go badly, has been outspoken about Knicks president Phil Jackson needing to broaden his coaching search outside of interim coach Kurt
Knicks fans –at least those who aren’t part of Team Rebuild– will probably be pleased by Melo’s guarantee. Now 31 years old, Anthony isn’t quite what he once was, but he’s still an elite scorer, and a terrific rebounder for his position.
In 2015-16, Anthony averaged 21.8 points per game — marking his lowest points per game average since the 2004-05 season. He did take on more of a distributing role, though, averaging a career-high 4.2 assists per game. He also averaged 7.7 rebounds per game, the second-highest mark of his career. He shot 43.4% from the field, 33.9% from three-point range, and 82.9% from the foul line.
