LeBron James’ name has been in the headlines recently and it has mostly been for non-basketball related issues, despite his stellar play as of late. He’s recently gone into “zero dark 23” mode and started to gear up for the playoff push with high expectations on his Cleveland Cavaliers team. But with his switch into a new mindset, it also comes with a switch on his social media accounts and with how the world works today, that didn’t go over smoothly.
But in other LeBron news, a piece recently came out about LeBron James and his brotherhood with fellow superstars Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and Dwyane Wade and how he would be interested in forming a super team with these guys. Unfortunately, the interview was done before the 2016 NBA All-Star Weekend and now it appears that LeBron might not be quite ready to form this team right now and neither is Carmelo Anthony.
LeBron said the following, courtesy of Joe Vardon on Cleveland.com.
LeBron James confirmed his wish to one day play with close friends Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul on the same team, but made it sound as though it wasn’t something he was actively pursuing.
“I don’t know how realistic it could be,” James said Wednesday, after the Cavs beat Milwaukee 113-104. “It would definitely be cool if it happened, but we don’t know how realistic it could be to have us four, but, I mean, if you got an opportunity to work with three of your best friends, no matter what.
“It’s not even about sports, it’s about being around guys that you don’t even have to say nothing, you automatically know. We just have that type of history, so, can it happen? I don’t know if it can even happen, but it would be cool.”
And Frank Isola of the New York Daily News reports that Carmelo is also interested in the idea of forming this squad but he’s not quite sure how or when it would work out.
Anthony was informed that LeBron raised the possibility of “The Brotherhood” becoming teammates.
“I really hope, that, before our career is over we can all play together,” James told Bleacher Report. “At least one, maybe one or two seasons — me, Melo, D-Wade, CP — we can get a year in. I would actually take a pay cut to do that.”
Anthony smiled when reporters asked him about LeBron’s comments and occasionally chuckled when he spoke.
“I don’t know,” Anthony said after Wednesday’s 115-107 win over the Chicago Bulls. “We still got years in this league. We’ll see if that happens.
Everybody dreams sometimes. Everybody has fantasies. You like that? You think it could happen?”
Anthony said that the salary cap wouldn’t be an issue because LeBron “said he’ll take a pay cut.”
“I’ll take a pay cut if it happens,” Anthony said. “I think we all would have to take a pay cut.”
Both the stars don’t know when it could happen and no one else really has an idea but one place to start could be the summer of 2017. LeBron and Wade are both free agents this summer but they could both sign another one year deal to stay on for another season and become free agents in 2017, which is also the same summer Chris Paul could become a free agent and the final domino, Carmelo Anthony, could simply waive his trade clause and go wherever his heart desires. 2016 might not be the year for this discussion, but in 2017, get ready for the firestorm.
