What you don’t see in other sports is players from other teams regularly chilling and actively having friendships. Think about it, only basketball is celebrated in the Summer Olympics right, (Ice Hockey in winter but, come on.) and obviously basketball have the All-Star Game but so do the other major sports.
But when you see players from other teams interact in the MLB or the NFL, they’re not like brothers. When the All-Star comes around. The players are doing bro activities. They’re taking pictures for each others Instagrams, they are all friends. Look at the offseason and the banana boat!
Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James and Chris Paul have been friends for years despite only playing together in international competition. So when Melo tells you that they are talking constantly about getting the Rio 2016 Gold medal. You can see them actually talking about thing things like that.
“We talk about it all the time,’’ Anthony said of winning another gold medal with James and Paul. “Just about how we want to go out and end it the next year with the Olympics, just how much we want to take from this experience. I’m going on four [Olympics], LeBron is going on four. Paul going for three. We’re connected by the hip.’’
Anthony and James can set a new mark of competing in four Olympiads in basketball and winning three golds.
“I’ve been part of USA since 18 years old,’’ Anthony said. “There’s history to be made. You got to start holding on to those moments and enjoy them.’’
I find it a shame that the commitment they put into this is wasted on some of you. When Paul George got injured last year, all of you were up in arms going “Why are they even playing?! We don’t care about the World Cup!”. Well excuse them for playing for the flag. Whoops! Better scrap the entire Team USA programme!
Feel lucky that you get to watch greatness team up and work as a unit ever 2/4 years. I would LOVE to see Great Britain win a basketball gold medal every 4 years. They love playing with each other, just enjoy it. So there’s a chance of injury, this is sport! It’s a physical activity, there will be an injury or two. Call it an occupational hazard.
