So the New York Knicks have a new head coach in Jeff Hornacek. A great hire considering that he has nothing to do with the Triangle, which I like. And as it turns out, Carmelo Anthony likes that as well.
I don’t think Carmelo liked the Triangle at all, I think he hated it. So the fact that Hornacek is now the head coach and before this trainwreck of a season for the Phoenix Suns, had a decent record. I think in terms of play and coaching, the only way is up for the Knickerbockers. And like I said, Carmelo is happy, excited even.
“I played against him a couple of times when he was the head coach out there in Phoenix,” Anthony said in an interview Saturday with WNBC-TV. “Everybody knows he likes to play an up-tempo pace of game, likes to get out in transition, likes to speed the game up a lot. So from that standpoint, I’ll definitely be looking forward to that.”
Perhaps more importantly, Anthony said Saturday that he believes Hornacek gives the Knicks a chance to turn things around. The club has missed the playoffs in each of the past three seasons.
“It sets the stage for us to do that,” Anthony said. “[It’s a] new opportunity, something new to play with, something fresh, a clean plate. So hopefully we can build off of this momentum.”
I personally don’t think they’ll make the Playoffs next season, but then again we have a whole offseason ahead of us. They have the opportunity to get some deals done, bulk up the squad up top to help Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis. And if the Knicks take in Hornacek’s Gospel Playoffs?
