Carmelo Anthony Is Ready To Recruit During All-Star Weekend
With this year’s NBA All-Star mania coming to Carmelo Anthony’s backyard in New York City, it’s only right that he try to take advantage of the opportunity to recruit his fellow All-Stars to join him on the Knicks in the near or distant future.
Carmelo is very much looking forward to that opportunity, as he even reflected on his experience being recruited heavily during All-Star weekend last year with Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN New York:
“That was kind of the talk of All-Star weekend last year,” Anthony said when asked if players were asking him what he was going to do at last year’s All-Star Game with his free agency coming up. “I’ve had that experience maybe twice now, last year and then the [All-Star game] in L.A. a couple of years back right before I got [traded] to New York.
“Now it’s my turn!” Anthony playfully said with a smile. “Now it’s my turn to extend the favor.”
Carmelo could be talking about any number of guys specifically. He’ll probably get in every one’s ear at some point, just to cover all bases.
It’s actually the ideal situation for Carmelo to attract guys to the idea of forming a new Knicks-era team with him as All-Star weekend now becomes the template. We already know that he’s confident in his salesman skills. We know that recently Kevin Durant expressed some interest in possibly giving the Knicks some attention in 2016 free agency. We also know that guys like LaMarcus Aldridge and yes, even possibly LeBron James are free agents this upcoming summer. We also know that Phil Jackson has cleared about $30 million to spend along with the lottery
pick the Knicks will receive. And finally, the new TV deal for the NBA. These things, Knicks fans should hope, can weigh in favor of a mighty rebuild.
And it might start at All-Star weekend.
