And the woes for the New York Knicks continues. As they struggle to win, they have even bigger problems. Carmelo Anthony is now feeling weak. He’s battered, bruised and now the fatigue is really kicking in.
Now head coach Derek Fisher knows this. And according to the New York Post, he’s open to shutting Melo down.
The Knicks coach yanked Anthony at halftime in Portland on Sunday after he was ineffective on both ends. Anthony barely ran back on defense and shot 5-of-14, missing a series of easy of attempts inside.
Anthony recently said he’s getting encouragement to shut it down instead of playing it game by game. He played 45 minutes in Sacramento on Saturday and did not appear ready for the second night of a back-to-back.“Carmelo is Carmelo,’’ Fisher said. “We don’t necessarily make decisions for him. He’s part of the conversation. We have our opinions and have expressed them. We all talked about different things. It’s really a decision he has to make on what’s best for him and his career.
The fact that they’re talking about what’s best for his career, is definitely worrying. But a plus is how they consider surgery to be the last option.
He has said he could need surgery after the season, but doing so in-season is “the last, last option.’’
The Knicks need to seriously think about their main asset. Because if this gets worse. Well. Let’s not go there.
