The Miami Heat took care of the New York Knicks last night at the Madison Square Garden. The game was supposed to be notable because it was Joe Johnson’s first game in a Heat uniform.
But no, there was something else that made the game notable. The crowd went pro-Heat with very recognisable “Let’s Go Heat” chants.
Carmelo Anthony heard it, very clearly. And he’s not very happy with it.
It was loud, it was unmistakable and it certainly got Carmelo Anthony’s attention.
“How could you not hear it?” he said.
Those three words — “Let’s go Heat!” — probably didn’t sit well with New York Knicks owner James Dolan. And they definitely didn’t sit well with Anthony.
“You’re home, you don’t want to hear that,” Anthony said. “I’m assuming they were all Miami Heat fans. I want to believe that. I want to think that. I don’t want to think it was New York Knicks fans. I was surprised. I was surprised, very surprised.“
There can’t be anything worse in my opinion. Playing at home but the away fans are more vocal.
Homecourt advantage isn’t a science, but when you don’t even have the illusion of a homecourt advantage, you must be feeling so bad and want to leave that arena as soon as possible.
