New York Knicks basketball, well, it’s not exactly ‘great’ right now. A franchise worst 16 game losing streak, 5-36 record on the season and a recent loss across the pond to the Milwaukee Bucks.
Carmelo Anthony returned for the Knicks for the first time in 6 games and he did his usual Carmelo contribution for the most part, putting up 25 points on the day but it was his teammates that didn’t show up.
There were 3 Knicks starters who didn’t even log a single point. None. THREE of the starters scored ZERO points.
Is is time to shut Melo down now? No, not yet according to reports.
From Al Iannazzone of Newsday.
“I took this time off so we really can gauge the injury and see if rest would help it and not make any drastic decisions right away,” Anthony said when speaking of his recent time off. “Right now I’m just trying to come back and be out there with the team, be out there with my teammates, trying to give them some confidence as young players who’ve never been through the situation before. I’ve never been through it before, so we’re going through it together.”
At this point it’s like Carmelo is just waiting to make it to the All-Star break so he can just shut it down. Between Monday’s contest against the New Orleans Pelicans and the All-Star break, the Knicks have 13 games, including a showdown on ESPN with the Los Angeles Lakers and their top ‘shut it down’ candidate, Kobe Bryant. He’s already said he knows that surgery is inevitable. Might as well rip the band-aid off and just do it. Get ready for the next season, starting in February.
