Carmelo Anthony has made headlines in many things outside of NBA-related subjects this offseason.
From taking a very public lead stand against police brutality, to surprising the world by retiring from Olympic Basketball, and much more, ‘Melo has been one active person since the season ended in the Spring.
One activity that hasn’t made television or other headlines is his work in Puerto Rico. Carmelo is currently on a trip with many of his teammates — Derrick Rose, Courtney Lee, Kyle O’Quinn and others — In an effort to bond before the season begins next month.
But that’s not all of what Carmelo is doing down there. Melo, who grew up in a rough setting in Baltimore, is giving back to the community by creating another Basketball court (video from his wife, LaLa Anthony).
Carmelo has helped a ton of people in need in the past, as this generous act is one of many we’ve seen from him. This past July, he made a very big donation to the Boys and Girls club. He also gave away 800 boxes of food to those in need in the Bronx last fall, as well.
“Giving back to the community is where my heart is”, Anthony said when he was named the November NBA Cares Community Assist Award winner last year. “If I can help even a couple people, then I’m doing my job,” “I’m blessed to be able to do this work and much more is still to come.”
While Carmelo is known as a fierce, trash-talking competitor on the court, he’s known as one of the most humble, caring, and supportive figures off of it.
Well done, Carmelo Anthony.
