Cardi B claims that she was the victim of a chokehold, given by a New York Police Department officer.
Details have emerged that the incident started with a traffic accident. Cardi was riding — not driving — in a Bentley SUV when another driver hit the vehicle. Cardi and her cousin began arguing with the driver until police arrived.
When the NYPD officer arrived, he allegedly grabbed Cardi and put his arms around her neck and pinned her against the Bentley SUV. The officer let Cardi go and allegedly left without filing a report or issuing a traffic citation. There were no reports of any injuries.
“The NYPD was made aware of a tweet made by rapper Cardi B, which was since deleted, and indicated an alleged interaction between the NYPD and her,” according to a NYPD spokesperson. “The NYPD has no record or any other information to support the validity of this claim.”
Cardi sent two tweets referencing the incident. Both have been deleted, but you can read screenshots below.

Offset shot a video giving his thoughts on the incident. He said Cardi called him after the alleged chokehold incident. Offset also mentioned the “hip hop police” — an alleged law enforcement unit dedicated to pinning crimes on rappers. “Oh yeah, they’re real for sure,” he said.
