I’ll be honest. Before last night, I didn’t know the difference between archive and vintage as it pertained to fashion. However, that’s changed. Why? Because on Friday, August 15, 2025, Cardi B returned with the latest single, “Imaginary Playerz,” from her highly anticipated sophomore album, Am I The Drama?
“The s—t these b—s are bragging about is s—t I was doing in 2016, type s—t,” she boasts before kicking off her first verse. “You b—s don’t even know the difference between vintage and archive.”
With the voices of René and Angela laying a soulful foundation for the track, Cardi B raps about her French designers and Italian restaurants with the charisma and style her fans have come to adore. At the same time, the Bronx-bred MC takes shots at those who act as if they enjoy the same luxuries as her. In its totality, the Am I The Drama? Single plays homage to the classic Jay-Z track of the same name, and according to the GRAMMY Award-winning artist, those in the know have given it their stamp of approval.
“There [were] a lot of Hip Hop heads in the building…and they heard ‘Imaginary Players,’ and they absolutely love it,” she said prior to the track’s release. “This song is like a staple for me…I have to get it approved by the one and only.”
“If he didn’t approve it, I probably wouldn’t [have] even [felt] a certain type of way because it’s like, ‘OK, maybe I just had to come a little bit harder,’” she continued. “But I’m glad that I came hard and he loved it.”
With Jay-Z’s approval and her legion of fans supporting her, Cardi B is revving up her engine for one of the more highly anticipated releases of the year. Setting the tone by paying homage to one of, if not the greatest, MCs from her hometown, the Bronx native is looking to bring New York City to the world yet again. Until September 13th rolls around, check out the “Imaginary Playerz” single and video below.
