Fandango has revealed that in its first day of advance ticket sales on the service, Disney and Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” film is ranking third in the online seller’s records for Marvel Cinematic Universe movies first day sales.
The film is trailing behind only “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Black Panther” at the same point in their cycles. It also suggests the film is headed for an opening above $100 million when it hits March 8th. Tickets for the film went on sale on Monday at 6 PM US-EST.
Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck helm the movie which is set in the 1990s. Oscar-winner Brie Larson stars as Carol Danvers, a pilot with superhuman powers who gets caught up in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg reprise their roles of Nick Fury and Phil Coulson (thanks to digital de-aging), while Lee Pace and Djimon Hounsou also reprise their roles.
“We’re seeing fantastic advance ticket sales for Captain Marvel because it’s a historic film for Marvel Studios, one that fans have been waiting to see for a decade. As the studio’s first female-driven superhero film, Captain Marvel is a benchmark moment for the genre, for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and for star Brie Larson, who will play the most powerful Marvel superhero to date.”
