With Avengers: Endgame now less than a week away, it’s almost impossible to ignore the flood of Avengers-related content. So, we wanted to do something a little different here at Def Pen to break through the noise. Every day leading up to the premiere, we’ll be breaking down exactly why each of the original Avengers is going to keep fighting Thanos in Endgame, even though he already beat them once. Today, it’s the Star-Spangled Avenger, Steve Rogers.
Captain America has withstood the tests of time, both literally and physically. He’s had to deal with losing everyone he loves (in the past) and now, he has to deal with it all over again. What I’m referring to is the fact that he woke up one day in the 21st century, realizing that all his friends from the World War 2 phase have either grown old or passed away. If you think about it, that’s pretty much as traumatic as it could get. However, Cap’ took it like a champ and regained a sense of purpose around the ‘Avengers’ and saving the world.
Only for all of that to unravel after the events of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, where he had to deal with the reality, once again, that because of Thanos’ snap, half of his friends (& the universe’s population) have become mere dust. Also, something very traumatic.
Now, more than ever, do the Avengers need Captain America. While they gave Cap’ a new purpose in the ‘future’. He also provided them with leadership and the embodiment of a true hero. Someone they could look to for help, solace or even motivation.
For Steve Rogers, Avengers: Endgame is the end of the road. Both the rise and the fall of a generational hero. He is and will be willing to do absolutely whatever it takes to get his friends back and beat Thanos. Even if it means sacrificing himself.
Avengers: Endgame hits theaters worldwide on April 26th.
