Not only will Superman have to go up against Batman, he may now have to take on Captain America as well.
Marvel has announced that it plans to release ‘Captain America 3’ on May 6, 2016, which happens to be the day Warner Bros. plans to release the highly anticipated ‘Superman vs Batman’.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman said that they were not changing the date for ‘Superman vs Batman’.
“It doesn’t make a lot of sense for two huge superhero films to open on the same date but there is a lot of time between now and 5/6/16,” said Fellman. “However at this time, we are not considering a change of date for ‘Batman vs Superman’.”
However, ‘Batman vs Superman’ is set to be released a week earlier in the UK on April 29, 2016 which may prompt the studio to move it up a week for a worldwide release on the same day.
Both franchises have been extremely successful.
‘Man of Steel’ fared well at the box office last summer pulling in $668 million while his superfriend Batman has the highest grossing superhero franchise of all time. Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy has made over $2.4 billion worldwide.
On the other hand, the first Captain America earned $370 million worldwide with its sequel pulling in $307 million in just two weeks of release. Capt was also part of a little movie called ‘The Avengers’ which was a $1.5 billion success
