In one of the more puzzling trades from the NBA trade deadline, Cameron Payne was dealt to the Chicago Bulls. In his first six games with the Bulls he has averaged 15 minutes per game, 6 points, 1.5 assists, on 34% shooting. His poor start has still not hindered his confidence, however, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical.
“It’s going to take time, but I want to be the guy for the Bulls’ future,”
This may end up being true, but the early signs are not all that positive for Cameron Payne. In 83 games he has a career field goal percentage of 38% and 32.6% from three. Payne knows there is hard work ahead though and realizes what it will take to become the Bulls future at point guard.
“I felt like OKC wanted something else, and I’m happy that Chicago felt the need to come trade for me. With what they gave up to get me, it meant a lot. The role that they want me to play … it’s tough. We’re in the middle of the season, and I got to learn a lot in such a short time period.
Chances are this season will not turn out great for Cameron Payne but with hard work and a chance, next season just may be different.
