California Governor Gavin Newsom has announced that he will move to begin reopening certain businesses as early as Friday. Businesses included in this process are book stores, clothing stores, music stores and sporting goods stores.
“This is an optimistic day,” he said on Monday.
“We see a little bit of sunshine on the horizon,” he added.
This plan will not include the opening of certain businesses such as malls and sit-down restaurants. Those businesses that will be able to reopen will have to abide by certain regulations such as delivering orders curbside and observing social distancing guidelines.
“California is led by data and science. Based off our progress, we’ll begin to gradually move into Stage 2 this Friday. Some sectors where there’s a lower risk of transmission will be able to adapt & re-open with modifications. This will include some retail and manufacturing/logistics,” Newsom tweeted.
While this move is promising, Newsom has warned that if cases increase, the state could move to close down businesses again. This year, the state has reported nearly 55,000 cases of COVID-19 and 2,254 deaths.
