The Orlando Magic have agreed to a deal in principle with former Indiana Pacers point-guard C.J Watson. The deal totals up to become a 3-year, $15 million dollar deal, which means that he will be be the back up for the 2nd year Elfrid Payton.
According to James Herbert of CBSSports:
The Orlando Magic have agreed to a three-year, $15 million deal with C.J. Watson, according to Yahoo Sports’ Marc Spears. Watson spent the last two seasons with the Indiana Pacers.
This move will probably fly under the radar, but it’s an important one for Orlando. Watson has long been a solid third guard, and he made 40 percent of his 3-pointers this past year. The Magic are desperate for shooting, so he’ll fit perfectly. He should back up starting point guard Elfrid Payton, but he is capable of playing alongside him as well. In this market, $5 million per season is rather cheap for a player like Watson.
With Tobias Harris inked on and rookie prospect Mario Hezonga, the Orlando Magic may want to get their feet wet and sign a couple more free agents. If everything pans out, they have a young, talented roster, now they just need the experience, and C.J Watson brings that.
