Blazers guard C.J McCollum has quickly developed into one of the NBA’s elite scorers. His break-out season last year was a part of the Blazers Playoff run, after many expecting them not to even make the playoffs, they reached the Semi-Finals, and McCollum won the most improved player of the year award. The Blazers ended up losing to MVP Stephen Curry and his Warriors basketball team, but that hasn’t taken away from C.J McCollum’s confidence.
When asked on Twitter by a fan if Stephen Curry could guard him, he gave a simple and definitive response. Per McCollum’s Twitter:
Although not being a perennial defender, Stephen Curry can defend with the best of them at times, it will be interesting to see how McCollum proves his statement in the 4 games they play next season. When they did play in the Playoffs last year, in 6 games McCollum averaged 21 points, 3 assists, 4 rebounds, and about 2, 3-pointers a game. All of those points obviously weren’t on Curry, but he has had his way with the Warriors at times. McCollum will have a lot to prove as he inked a 4-year, $106 million contract, with the Blazers and that makes him and his backcourt buddy, all-star Damian Lillard the highest paid players on the team. With the Blazers under their leadership, how far can this young roster go? McCollum certainly thinks Steph Curry won’t be a problem.
