It’s well documented that pretty much everybody but the Lakers front office want Byron Scott gone. We will have to wait until the end of the season to see Scott’s fate but for now we can just continue to watch him be tough on his young players as they cruise to possibly equalling the franchise record for most consecutive losses. But Byron Scott isn’t looking at the record, I mean sure what’s the point? He’s looking at the players he’s coaching and he’s not shying away from giving them a taste of the old days where you were mentally beaten into shape.
“I am who I am,” Scott told The Times. “Pat Riley wasn’t easy on us. Larry Brown wasn’t easy on me [in Indiana]. I think that’s the reason I was successful because I had a coach that pushed me and tried to get the very best out of me.
“As far as I’m concerned, I’m no different. I want to see how great these guys can be. I want to push them to the limit. I want to push them to things they’ve never done before. If that’s being too tough, so be it.“
So be it! Screw the record, screw the job. I’d find it quite amusing if he wasn’t coaching after the new season and then the players start to miss the tough coaching style. That would just shut us all up wouldn’t it?
Byron Scott is certainly consistent in his approach, I don’t think the Lakers were expecting Scott to be so ruthless. I certainly wasn’t.
