Byron Scott and the Los Angeles Lakers have had a bumpy season. By bumpy I mean dirt road on a rusty bicycle bumpy. Basically they’ve been grade A trash.
But if you think about it. They do have a clear plan, they have Jordan Clarkson who’s had a half decent second half to the season. Julius Randle looks good coming back from injury. Kobe is Kobe. And they have cap room. It’s going to be hard graft but I think they’ll make it out of mediocrity. Some day.
But will Jeremy Lin be part of the Lakers when they are moving on up? Byron Scott has talked about Lin’s season and how they’ve worked to be on each others level.
“I think he’s obviously gotten better. I think when he first got here his mind of what a point guard is was totally different than mine, and as we [went] along he started to understand what I wanted from him on a day to day basis, so I thought the progression was much better. I thought he got a lot better mentally as the season went on, and I think a lot of that comes from just understanding what the coach wants and so like I said, at the end of the day I saw a big time growth from him.”
“The one thing about him, the kid takes criticism,” Scott said of Lin. “You can jump on him about things and he takes it with a grain of salt and tries to get better, that’s the one thing I do love about him, he doesn’t pout about it. Just goes out there and tries to implement the things that you give him and try to become a better basketball player.”
Now Jeremy Lin is famously average. So he might be perfect for the Lakers in the coming years (oh come on. You really think they’re going to go straight to Finals team? Behave.)
Whether he is there or not won’t really make a difference. Clarkson is coming into his own and all we’ve heard on the free agent wire is that the Lakers are going for both Rajon Rondo and Goran Dragic. So. Good luck if they go there Jezza. (Jezza = Jeremy by the way.)
